overview

Refreshed for MY2025 on February 20, 2025, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga continues to be the go-to MPV for budget-conscious families. It’s priced from ₹8.84 lakh to ₹13.13 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available in LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+ variants.

Measuring 4,395 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width, and standing 1,690 mm tall, the Ertiga balances city maneuverability with interior room. Weight ranges from 1,250 kg (petrol) to 1,320 kg (CNG), with a healthy 180 mm of ground clearance.

Powering the car is a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine (103 PS, 137 Nm) or a 1.5L CNG unit (88 PS, 122 Nm), mated to either a 5-speed MT, 6-speed AT (petrol only), or MT (CNG). Boot space stands at 550 litres (seats up), expandable to 803 litres.

The 2025 update brings minor styling tweaks, new dual-tone interiors, and additional safety tech on top variants.

engine and performance

The 2025 Ertiga continues with its proven 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine, producing 103 PS and 137 Nm. It’s not about speed—it’s about smooth, fuss-free driving.

Paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic, this engine handles city driving with ease. We clocked 0–100 kmph in 12.5 seconds (petrol MT), which is fair for a people mover. The automatic is relaxed, though a little slow on kickdowns.

Claimed mileage stands at 20.51 kmpl (petrol MT), and in our test loop, we achieved close to 18 kmpl in mixed driving. The CNG version produces 88 PS and 122 Nm—power drops, but fuel economy rockets to 26.11 km/kg.

The 60-litre CNG tank (equivalent to ~11 kg gas) stretches range up to 300–320 km on gas alone, with a combined range (petrol + CNG) nearing 900 km.

It won’t thrill enthusiasts, but for families chasing economy, it works. Engine refinement is excellent, and NVH levels stay low under 3,000 rpm.

Ride and Handling

This is no corner carver—but it doesn’t pretend to be. Ride quality is tuned for comfort, with MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear.

Even with a full load of passengers and luggage, it handles speed bumps and potholes with composure. At low speeds, the suspension is soft without being floaty. Once you cross 80 kmph, it firms up slightly, keeping body roll in check.

That said, sharper undulations do filter in, especially on broken roads. The 2,740 mm wheelbase helps with high-speed stability, and even at 120 kmph, the Ertiga doesn’t feel nervous.

Steering is feather-light at parking speeds, which makes tight U-turns and city cuts easy. It weighs up somewhat on highways but still feels disconnected.

Braking is progressive—discs up front do most of the work, but rear drums manage fine for typical family use. The Ertiga’s ride-and-handling balance leans clearly towards comfort—it’s built to haul people, not excite drivers.

interior

Where the Ertiga shines is cabin practicality. This is a legit 7-seater that doesn’t force too many compromises.

The front seats are decently cushioned, and getting into a comfortable driving position is easy—even for tall drivers. The second row is the sweet spot: with a sliding and reclining bench and around 1,000 mm of knee room, three adults can genuinely sit comfortably.

Rear AC vents (VXi+) and flat floor space help longer journeys. The third row, while usable, is best for kids or short trips—adults will find headroom and thigh support lacking. That said, its 50:50 split lets you prioritize luggage.

Speaking of which, the 550-litre boot (with all rows up) is one of the segment’s best. Drop the third row, and you’re working with 803 litres—enough for a week-long road trip.

Interior highlights include a 9-inch touchscreen (ZXi+), wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, and steering-mounted controls. The CNG variant loses some boot space due to the tank, but still manages weekend-luggage levels.

The cabin isn’t luxurious, but it’s clean, spacious, and thoughtfully laid out.

exterior

The Ertiga isn’t flashy—but that’s not the point. It carries a soft, approachable aesthetic, with a new chrome-accented front grille, halogen projector headlamps (LEDs on ZXi+), and an upright MPV silhouette.

Its 15-inch alloy wheels (on ZXi and above) keep proportions balanced, while the thick C-pillar and upright rear enhance its family-focused presence. The rear tailgate gets wraparound lamps and subtle creases, making it look more put together than budget.

Seven monotone color options include Pearl Metallic Auburn Red, Oxford Blue, Magma Grey, and Dignity Brown. No dual-tone options are available this year.

Inside, a beige-black theme with faux wood accents keeps the cabin feeling bright and pleasant. While the LXi and VXi trims feel utilitarian, ZXi+ with its leather-wrapped steering, chrome touches, and 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen elevates the ambiance.

It’s not premium, but it feels homely and practical—exactly what it’s meant to be.

safety

Maruti Suzuki has added more safety kit this year, but let’s be clear: the Ertiga hasn’t been tested under Bharat NCAP yet. That said, it gets dual front airbags as standard, while ZXi and ZXi+ variants offer four additional side and curtain airbags, bringing the total to six.

ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold assist (AT only), rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX mounts are all standard across the range.

We tested the ZXi+ on a highway run; stability at triple-digit speeds was reassuring, especially with ESP kicking in on sharper curves. The 185/65 R15 tyres offer acceptable grip—though we’d have preferred disc brakes at the rear instead of drums.

While ADAS features are absent, the Ertiga now offers a rear camera (from VXi onwards) and a more robust body shell that feels sturdier than its predecessor. Safety is functional, not futuristic.

competition

The Ertiga sits at the heart of the MPV space and faces strong challengers. The Toyota Rumion (₹10.54 lakh–₹13.83 lakh) is essentially a rebadged Ertiga with the same engine and platform. It carries Toyota’s badge appeal, but also a ₹1–2 lakh higher price tag.

The Renault Triber (₹6.10 lakh–₹8.98 lakh) undercuts on price, offers decent flexibility, and even more boot space with third row folded—but its 1.0L engine (72 PS) feels underpowered with seven aboard.

The Kia Carens (₹10.52 lakh–₹19.67 lakh) outguns the Ertiga on features and performance (with 160 PS turbo and ADAS), but starts nearly ₹2 lakh higher and feels more premium than practical.

The Maruti XL6 (₹11.61 lakh–₹14.77 lakh) offers a more upmarket 6-seat version of the Ertiga with captain chairs and a smarter cabin, but sacrifices middle-row practicality and value.

Then there’s the Mahindra Marazzo (₹14.59 lakh–₹17.00 lakh), a diesel-only alternative with higher torque and highway legs—but it’s heavier, older, and less fuel-efficient.

For families looking for affordability, fuel economy, and space, the Ertiga remains a top pick—even if it’s not the most tech-savvy or powerful.

final verdict

The 2025 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga continues its reign as India’s favorite family MPV—not because it dazzles, but because it delivers.

With flexible 7-seat practicality, class-leading efficiency, and Maruti’s unbeatable service network, it checks the boxes most buyers care about.

Sure, it misses out on diesel, ADAS, and luxe touches, but for ₹8.84 lakh onwards, there’s little that hauls people this well. If you want fuss-free, frugal family commuting with a no-nonsense vibe, the Ertiga still gets it right.
