Tata Motors has launched the updated Tiago EV in India at a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh ex-showroom, making it one of the country’s most affordable electric cars. The facelifted EV receives redesigned exterior styling, a significantly improved interior, more technology features, and revised variant packaging while retaining its existing electric powertrains.

Buyers can choose between 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh battery packs with claimed MIDC ranges of up to 285 km. Tata has also introduced a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty for 24 kWh private-use variants, addressing one of the biggest concerns among first-time EV buyers in India.

Battery and Motor

The long-range version gets a larger 24 kWh battery pack producing 75 PS and 114 Nm. Tata claims an MIDC range of 226 km for the 19.2 kWh variant and 285 km for the 24 kWh version.

Both variants support DC fast charging, with 10 to 80 percent charging taking around 35 minutes. The EV also supports 3.3 kW and 7.2 kW AC charging options and uses a CCS2 charging connector. Drive modes include City and Sport, along with four-level regenerative braking adjustment.

Front disc and rear drum brakes are standard, while tyre size stands at 175/65 R14. Real-world range is expected to be lower than claimed figures, especially with heavy air-conditioner usage or highway driving, but the larger battery pack should still comfortably handle daily urban commuting for most users.

Range and Charging

interior

The updated Tiago EV now looks more distinct from the petrol hatchback. Tata has redesigned the front bumper with sharper lines, added a cleaner EV-style closed grille section, slimmer LED headlamps, and revised LED DRLs that give the car a more futuristic appearance. The side profile gets aerodynamic alloy wheel designs and EV-specific blue accents, while the rear receives slimmer connected-look LED tail lamps and a cleaner bumper treatment.

The EV measures 3825 mm in length, 1677 mm in width, and 1535 mm in height, with a 2400 mm wheelbase and 240 litres of boot space. Unlike many compact EVs that look awkward because of battery packaging, the Tiago EV still manages to retain hatchback-like proportions and easy manoeuvrability in city traffic.

Interior Features

The Tiago EV’s cabin now feels considerably more modern than before. The dashboard has been redesigned with a flatter layout and now houses a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Tata has also added a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, cruise control, connected car technology, cooled glovebox, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, push-button start-stop, wireless charger, 360-degree camera, blind-view monitor, and electrically adjustable ORVMs. Higher variants additionally get a 4-speaker sound system with tweeters. The cabin does not feel luxurious, but it no longer feels like a budget EV with compromises everywhere. The improved ergonomics and cleaner dashboard layout make it easier to live with every day.

exterior

The facelifted Tiago looks noticeably sharper without changing its overall proportions. Up front, Tata has added slimmer LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, a redesigned grille, chunkier bumper cladding, and revised fog lamp housings that make the hatchback appear wider and lower.

The profile gets fresh 15-inch alloy wheel designs along with blacked-out B-pillars, while the rear now features connected-look LED tail lamps, a cleaner bumper design, and a subtler roof spoiler.

Unlike many budget hatchbacks that still look plain, the new Tiago finally has some visual character, especially in colours like Varanasi Vibrance and SoBo Surge. Despite the sporty treatment, it still keeps practical dimensions for crowded city roads and tight parking spaces.

safety

Tata has equipped the updated Tiago EV with six airbags as standard along with ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill hold control, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, blind-view monitor, and a 360-degree camera on higher variants.

The battery pack is IP67-rated for water and dust resistance, while Tata has also included reinforced battery protection systems and regenerative braking controls for better energy recovery during traffic-heavy driving conditions.

Unlike some low-cost EVs that feel stripped down in the name of affordability, the Tiago EV still manages to offer a genuinely complete safety package.

Warranty

One of the biggest highlights of the updated Tiago EV is its lifetime high-voltage battery warranty for private first owners of the 24 kWh variants.

Tata says the coverage is valid for up to 15 years with unlimited kilometres under personal usage conditions, which significantly improves long-term ownership confidence and resale appeal. Standard battery and motor warranty coverage remains 8 years or 1,60,000 km, while the vehicle warranty stands at 3 years or 1,25,000 km.

Tata is also offering a Battery-as-a-Service option with battery subscription pricing starting at Rs 2.6 per kilometre, lowering the initial purchase cost for buyers entering the EV space for the first time.

competition

The Tata Tiago EV competes against the MG Comet EV, Citroen eC3, and lower variants of the Tata Punch EV.

The Comet EV is more city-focused and compact, the eC3 offers more cabin space, while the Punch EV delivers significantly more range and performance at a higher price point.

The Tiago EV sits somewhere in the middle, balancing affordability, practicality, usable range, and everyday ease of driving better than most entry-level EVs currently on sale in India.

Tata Tiago EV FAQs

Tata likely prioritized affordability and city usage for the Tiago.ev. Upgrading the battery would have increased weight and price, potentially overlapping with the larger-range Punch.ev.
Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) lets you buy the car at ₹4.69 lakh, then pay a battery rental of ₹2.6 per km. This significantly lowers the upfront acquisition cost
Using a DC fast charger, both battery packs charge from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes. A 15A home socket takes about 9–12 hours for a full charge
The "Lifetime" warranty covers the 24 kwh (only) HV battery for 15 years/unlimited km for the first owner only. It requires strict adherence to Tata’s official service schedules and charging protocols.
The 19.2kWh (MR) offers ~155 km, while the 24kWh (LR) delivers ~210 km in mixed city-highway conditions. Real-world range is typically 70–75% of the ARAI-certified claimed figures.
Tiago.ev is better for tight budgets and pure city commutes. Punch.ev is superior if you need more range (up to 350 km real-world), higher ground clearance, and ventilated seats
Tata claims it features 6 standard airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a 4-star GNCAP-rated structural shell. It also includes a segment-first 360-degree camera for easier, safer parking
It offers two options: a 19.2kWh Medium Range (61 PS/110 Nm) and a 24kWh Long Range (75 PS/114 Nm). Both use liquid-cooled LFP battery technology for better longevity
Yes, it can be charged via a standard 15A wall socket or a 3.3kW/7.2kW AC home charger. Tata Power provides professional installation for these chargers at your home.
A 3.3kW portable charger is standard. The 7.2kW AC fast charger is typically an optional extra or included only in the top-end "Creative+" Long Range variants.
