TVS Motor has filed a design patent for a brand-new electric scooter in Indonesia, according to a report by TMCBlog.com. This comes at a time when the brand has been actively expanding its EV portfolio globally. TVS already exports models like the iQube, Raider, and Apache to this market.
New visual elements
The design sketch reveals a scooter with a unique boxy silhouette similar to the iQube, but with its own distinct styling. It features a handlebar-mounted headlamp and a small visor, along with a continuous DRL bar at the front and rear, possibly integrated with turn signals. There’s no visible exhaust, confirming its electric powertrain.
One of the more notable design elements is the visibly larger front wheel compared to the rear, which is not common on the iQube. This suggests a likely 14-inch front wheel, in line with scooter trends in Southeast Asian markets. A smaller rear wheel could help keep the seat height low and increase underseat storage.
The upcoming scooter ditches the hub motor and instead uses a swingarm-mounted motor setup, similar to rivals like the Bajaj Chetak and Ather Rizta. The suspension layout, however, retains twin rear shock absorbers like the iQube.
India launch uncertain for now
TVS is working on a low-cost electric scooter for India, which will sit below the iQube. However, this model, with its large wheels and swingarm motor, suggests it might be a different model aimed more at global expansion than local affordability.
Although there’s no confirmation yet about its India launch, the overseas patent filing shows that TVS is preparing to expand its EV range beyond the domestic market. More details are likely to follow soon.
